Veritas Prayer List
As I get set to head to Deep Creek Lake tomorrow on a little vacation with my family, I thought I would share with you the latest prayer requests for our Veritas Church plant.
I want to start off this e-mail thanking each and every one of you for the prayers and support and most of all your friendship to Kim and I over these last few months as we continue to prepare, pray, and work on the launching of Veritas as it's own missional community of faith in September of 2009. Here are some prayer updates, some related to Veritas and some personal.
1. Cheryl, Harrison, Sarah, and Gracie Hipple- Cheryl is Kim's sister (my sister-in-law). Sunday afternoon we found out that Cheryl who was expecting, was going to have twins. But they found that out because she had a miscarriage. Please pray for Cheryl and her husband Harrison, and their daughters Sarah and Gracie. Pray that God would comfort them in this difficult time. Pray that God's Spirit would be evident through prayers, relationships, and a sense of the Spirit's presence.
2. Steering Team- At this point we have 4 people who have agreed to be a part of our Steering Team. The role of the Steering Team (as I understand it) is to act as a liason between the district and the church plant. Thank God for the 4 who are willing to help us wrestle with some tough items (finances and how they will work, W-2, Employment issues, Legal issues, etc...). We are looking for probably 1 more person. Pray that as I seek that one person that God would go before me and we would be able to find that one person who would be right for the team. Pray for this team as we begin the work of preparing for the launch in September.
3. Mission Support Team- The Mission Support Team had it's first meeting monday afternoon. I am so thankful for those who were there. They are amazing and I am so glad for their support and their wisdom. We are looking for 2 others (One from Veritas and one from Hempfield). So pray that we would be able to find those 2 people and that the work of the MST would be beneficial. Pray for the meetings that the MST will help to set up with potential "investors". Pray that the right contacts will be made.
4. Finances- God continues to be faithful and continues to provide resources that we didn't plan on from the beginning. We have been given a generous gift from the East Fairview congregation. Thank God for East Fairview and for the head of their Evangelism and Social Ministry Team- Gail Carson. Pray that as we continue (with the help of the MST) the hard work of finding funding streams that God would provide individuals, businesses, churches and other avenues who are willing to contribute to the work of building this mission to be a missional community of authentic worshippers. If you know of a church or an individual who might be interested in partnering with us, please let us know. If you are interested in partnering with us financially, please let us know that as well.
5. Core Group- We continue to look for people who would be interested in joining the core group of Veritas- to help us plant this church. We have had some people show interest through the wonders of the internet website meetup.com (which Ray Creveling put together for us). We had a meeting on Saturday with an individual (who then showed up Sunday night for Veritas game night). We are waiting to hear back from him. Also Gail Carson is hoping to introduce us to two couples who might be perfect for our core group and we are hoping to meet with them on March 27. Thank God for those who have already said that they will be a part of the church plant (7 total people). Pray for others to join. (We are hoping for 15-20). Pray for connections to be made with others. Pray for the two couples who Gail is hoping to introduce us to. By the way- if you know of someone who might be interested in joining our Core Group or if you might have interest, please let us know. Pray for our Core Group as we begin to meet together weekly in April. Pray for solid relationships, a missional heart for the group, and wisdom as we move forward.
6. Sunday Gathering space- We had a great meeting with English Presbyterian Church two weeks ago about the possibility of using their space for our Sunday gatherings. But we continue to search for other possibilities (so as not to put all eggs in one basket). Pray for wisdom and discernment regarding finding a place to hold Sunday gatherings. (If you know of a place in the Marietta, Mount Joy, Columbia area- especially a church building that might be a possibility for us...don't hesitate in letting me know. Ideally we would love a space that has an ancient look and feel to it...you know Stained Glass, High Vaulted ceilings, etc. Though we will entertain any ideas.)
7. Missional Opportunities- Pray that we would continually look for missional opportunities. Pray that we would begin to work on a series of Random Acts of Kindness events starting in April and running through September and then into the launch of the church plant. Pray for the opportunities to spread the word about Veritas possibly at the Purple Door Festival and the Bridge Bust.
