Media
Everyday new outlets of
expression open up.
Where once Radio,TV and Newspapers were locally with some
national aspects, today the reverse is true. Until the internet
came along many people feared the loss of the community and individual
voice. Now
anyone with a computer can become a Commentator, Pundit, Musician,
Designer, Artist or Communicator. The new media isn't perfect and some
of what seems to be grass roots is later found to be astroturf but,
some truly amazing content is out there.
This doesn't mean "Old
Media" is dead or that it's detrimental to the community. We all have a
movie, a book or a song that has
changed us in some way and those are just as important as the weekly
podcast that we can't live without.
So below is an ever growing
list of media that
has touched us. It's not all "Christian" or even religious. It might be
a book about finance or a painting by Van Gogh. If you have something you want to
add then send it to Ray.

Books
First came the written word and if that wasn't bad enough, it was
follwoed by moveable type. Moveable type allowed a person to create
hundreds of copies of a sheet in a hour. Whole books could be
produced in weeks instead of years. By the mid 1800's motorized
pressess powered by steam and water wheels could churn out 10,000
sheets per hour. The finest literature and lowliest dime store novel
were produced with blazing speed. The world consumed more words on
paper than ever before in its history.
The Hidden Power of Electronic Culture by Shane Hipps - Review by Ray
The Subtiitle of this book is "How Media Shapre Faith, The Gospel and
Church." I think the book goes deeper than that into. "How media shapes
thought". By media we are not talking about just media like tv networks providers but, the
media itself print, TV, Radio, Internet. Each type changes the way we
think and the way we percieve messages. This book does an excellent job
of dealing with these issues and helps the reader understand how media
and advertising effect them. The author also lets the reader see how
different generations thought and reasoning processess are
shaped by the media that they were raised with. A great book for
anyone who wants to communicate with or understand media.
